Jon seemed to have alot of fun this holiday season tormenting me with my present. He gave me weird hints like “You’ll use it every day but only at certain times.” Actually that was the ONLY hint I got until last weekend when he informed me that if he gave it to me wrapped on Christmas, it wouldn’t work. But I could have it Monday or Tuesday in which case it WOULD work. But if he gave it to me RIGHT THEN (Saturday night), no dice.
Huh?
Well yeah, now that I KNOW what it is, that all makes PERFECT sense. So those of you who read the last post just…shush. Try figuring out with a complete lack of context.
Anyway. I told him I wanted it as soon as possible.
Monday didn’t really dawn…it just got less dark outside. And I didn’t really drive to work. I crawled slowly along and slid into a parking spot outside my office window. I hurried inside, closed my blinds to the cold dreariness outside and started in with an unexpected amount of phone calls and requests. Jon messaged me about 9:00am that he was going to run errands. Just as I started to consider lunch I got a text from him. “I will bring you lunch today.
“ I told him that would make my day all while thinking “what an awesome boyfriend…”
He arrived shortly thereafter…or it seemed quick because I was SO swamped…and offered to drive me the twenty feet or so to the mailbox since his car was warm and the ground was snowy & icy. We enjoyed a quiet lunch while listening to Christmas music in my office. It was with great reluctance that I said goodbye to him & the peace he brought for half an hour and returned to the craziness of the work day.
Once back on chat he proceeded to ask me if I had figured out my present, did I have any guesses, etc. I told him NO. I’m horrible at guessing presents. I don’t even like to try. And I was BUSY. He told me if I figured out before I got home to let him know. I told him it wasn’t going to happen. I didn’t have time to THINK about it.
Finally the day ended and I wearily trudged out the car. I settled into the seat and realized I couldn’t reach the pedals. My mind was just processing this fact when I saw a…remote?…sitting in my console. I reached for it and my gaze fell on…a new stereo.
And I squealed.
Then I turned it on and he had my favorite CD cued up and I almost cried.
I’ve never had CD player in my car. I’ve never had a decent stereo at all. And I LOVE it.
When I finally got home, Jon told HIS side of the story. I don’t know that I can do it justice but here it goes.
He waited that morning until he knew I was settled into work, grabbed my extra set of keys and drove down to my office. He pulled into the back entrance of the parking lot and parked his car behind the building. He then realized where exactly I’d parked. Leaving everything in the car in case I caught him, he took my keys, crouched down, and RAN to my car. He slid in, drove it around to the back of the building, grabbed the stereo and then took my car to have it installed.
In summary: HE JACKED MY CAR FROM OUTSIDE MY OFFICE WINDOW AND I WAS CLUELESS!
He offered to bring me lunch when he realized I might try to leave before he was done.. When he got back, he re-parked my car, ran to HIS car, drove back out and around to the FRONT entrance like he was just arriving…just in case I glanced out a front window. When he came in I told him I needed to get my bosses’ goodie bags out of my trunk and go to the mailbox. That’s when he told me he’d drive me and he offered to get the goodie bags for me. His footprints in the snow? Covered. Any chance I might walk past my car and notice anything different? Eliminated. He was a little miffed to find out my seat had been moved. He didn’t do it, the installers did. But he didn’t notice because HE could reach the pedals. How he was able to drive with it set for me is beyond me. His knees had to be up around his chin!
He then spent lunch shaking because he’d just stolen and returned my car and was trying to decide if I suspected anything.
Like I said…clueless. He was pretty proud of himself.

This has to be one of the best presents ever. We really bonded through and with music. The first time we spoke on the phone was due to a song. I would have music playing constantly if the boys didn’t provide SO much noise. He put so much thought and effort into this gift. The lengths he will go to in order to spoil and surprise me are amazing.
