TheKid was pacing around, absently playing with his yo-yo while he waited for Jon and the other boys to get home. From the kitchen I hear him lament that only a minute has passed since the last time he looked at the clock. “A watched pot never boils!” I sing song to him. Which of course leads to an explanation – if you’re watching the clock or staring out the window for someone (or staring at a pot of water), time will crawl/the water will never seem to boil. “But distract yourself (I say in my wisest motherly tone) and time will fly past!”
About five minutes later I hear from the living room…….
“You’re right! A watched clock never boils!!”
