Velvet Verbosity is headed back from a much deserved vacation but she left us with the challenge prompt of “myself”.

Hours ago I had rescued a box from the chaos of a storage closet and upended its contents onto the floor. Hours ago I began the task of turning disorder into some semblance of logical arrangement. Now as I straightened with a groan, I surveyed my work happily. Friends, family, twenty years of smiles and laughter of varying degrees were displayed before me. Sure there were tears between these photos. Of course there were angry words and slammed doors and drama enough for Broadway. But in essence the moments spread in colorful array represented everything that molded me into myself.

Really catches the evocativeness of family and moments and how we catch them and keep them.

I know exactly what this is about. Pictures show where we came from, what molded us into what we are. Or at least the so called happy times of that molding. Great writing.

People have a tendency to idealize the memories they remember from looking at things like photos, but maybe it’s all for the best. Like the good things are the only parts that mattered anyway. I love this.
