Wow I feel rusty but here’s my submission to Velvet Verbosity’s 100 Word Challenge this week!
It was still an hour before dawn when the slight girl woke and quietly slipped into the shadows. Her too large eyes constantly darted, alert for other movement. She crept past the store on the corner known for its greedy owner with a nasty temperament, past the abandoned church, toward the bakery three streets over. As she hoped there was a bag lying next to the trash can as if it’d been thrown out thoughtlessly; its contents much too fresh for an alleyway. She clutched the bag protectively and hurried away, unaware of the baker watching sadly behind the curtain.

Heartbreaking, but still filled with hope and compassion. Nicely done.

Oh, how very, very nice this is. A lovely piece, well written and very, very evocative.
